New Zealand City/Resort Stopover
Queenstown (4 days/3 nights)
Nestled on the shores of beautiful Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown is a picture postcard resort town. It is world renowned for its stunning alpine setting with a backdrop of the rugged, snow-capped Remarkable Mountains on one side and the magnificent Southern Alps on the other.
The gold rush of 1862 began the swarm of fortune-hunters, including many Australians, Americans and Chinese. Canvas towns sprang up on the lower reaches of the Shotover River, which became the second-richest gold-bearing river in the world. However by 1900 the rush was over and the population dwindled from several thousand to just a couple of hundred.
But instead of becoming a ghost town, visitors from all over the world still gather here year round to enjoy, not only Queenstown's natural beauty, but also to sample almost every kind of outdoor and adventure activity including it's famed skiing, jetboating and bungy jumping.
